Achilles Tendinitis

Inflammation of the tendon causes pain, and limits movement. Achilles tendinitis may be caused by running on hard surfaces for long periods.

Achilles Tendinitis Treatment

In the acute phase apply ice packs followed by hot and cold therapy. Aromatherapy compresses using Roman chamomile reduce inflammation. Essential oil of peppermint is marvellous for reducing pain.

Effleurage along the sides of the Achilles tendon, with the receiver's lower leg raised to encourage drainage and reduce swelling. Apply friction massage to break down adhesions and to improve the circulation.

Tendinitis essential oils

1 drop of frankincense

Runners who suffer from Achilles tendinitis should check their shoes - high heels tabs can cause Achilles tendinitis and the heel tab may need to be cut away.
