Blisters

Blisters are caused by friction due to unaccustomed or prolonged rubbing - for example by shoes or by the handle of a tennis or squash racket, cricket bat and so on. Blisters are more likely to occur in hot weather as the hands and feet may swell creating a different grip or more compression in the shoes. Blisters may seem a trivial, but they can result in long breaks from training, particularly if an infection develops.

Blister Treatment

Ensure that your footwear fits properly and is properly worn in. Check that your racket is the correct size. Take care of your feet with regular aromatherapy footbaths - six drops of pure essential oil to a bowl of water. Benzoin, myrrh, lavender and tea tree are particularly beneficial.

For a minor blister apply a few drops of neat pure essential oil of tea tree or lavender to the area and protect it from further friction with a gauze dressing held in place with plaster strips so that air can get in.

If the blister is large, puncture it by making two small holes at the end of it with a sterilized needle and gently squeeze out the fluid. Then protect the area with a plaster.

Keep blisters scrupulously clean. Leave shoes or socks off for as much time as possible to encourage healing.

Blister essential oil

Dab blisters with a strong solution of tea tree - six drops to an egg-cup full of water.
