Verrucae (plantar warts)

Verrucae, or ingrowing warts, are a common problem and a nuisance for sports people. They are most often located on the sole of the foot, are highly contagious and are spread via the floors of showers, changing rooms and swimming pools where people walk barefoot. Verrucae can be extremely painful.

Planter Wart Treatment

Orthodox medical treatment is to cut or burn away verrucae or remove them with liquid nitrogen if they do not disappear with a proprietary wart preparation or of their own accord.

Verrucae can be effectively and simply treated with pure essential oils of lemon and tea tree. Using a cotton bud, apply undiluted a drop of either lemon or tea tree to the centre of the plantar wart. Cover the area with a plaster. Repeat several times a day until the verrucae disappears. This could take less than a week or up to a month. If a young child is being treated, then dilute the essential oils. Dilute one drop of tea tree and one drop of lemon into ten drops of cider vinegar.
